2023

Ladies Golf Association Highlights – Chambersburg PA – October 2023

This was our 19Th competition since born by “Calcutta” at Albuquerque in 2003 ! We had 20 ladies play a total of 56 rounds during 4 delightful days across the gorgeous rolling hills of south central Pennsylvania. [Thank you, Jeff Rock, for hosting !]

We were delighted to welcome two rookies to our midst, Cathy Morrison [Bill] and Annette Foytik [ Lane Morehead]. We are looking seeing you both again in Michigan in ’24.

Most remarkable was how closely contested were all 4 days as all gross scores came in between 67 and 73. So a shot here and a putt there and any team could have won any day.

Day 1 : At the Founder’s Course, it was Team Gucci [Sandy Pogue, Susan Nelson, Jackie Wright , Cathy Morrison] dominating with a most impressive 5 birdie 67 to win by 4 over the 71’s.

Day 2 : At Iron Forge, Team Louis Vuitton [Val Yakovac, Jackie Wright, Kathy Morrison, Carol Irwin] rose to the occasion by firing a great 67 featuring 5 natural birdies to beat out the others at 70, 72 and 73.

Day 3 : At Waynesboro CC, Team Louis Vuitton [Marilyn Gustin, Val Yakovac, Linda Knight , Jackie Wright],obviously benefitting from some strategic trades, shot a fine 70 to nip two 73s.

Day 4 : Back at the Founder’s course, it was Team Gucci back in the winner’s circle [Jackie Wright, Sandy Pogue, Marilyn Gustin, Cathy Morrison]. Their superb 68 dusted the 71,73,73 that followed.

To Teams Prada and Victoria’s Secret, we can only say you looked great….better luck next year !

Not to go unnoticed was the amazing MVP performance of Jackie Wright who sparked her teams to victory each and every day. It was no doubt an LGA record. Congratulations Jackie ! [ The Pink Lords have taken notice !!]

    Summary:

We were delighted to have a total of 21 ladies who tee’d it up 82 times across the 4 days. By far, the highlight of each round happened at the ladies table at the lunch afterwards. Hubbies could not understand why their ladies were cool and already served by the time they straggled in. All look forward to our return to the Penn National venue in Fall of 2023.

  • 2019 – Hard to believe that it has been 16 years since we sold the 3 first ever ladies teams in the high stakes Calcutta at the Albuquerque Shootout in 2003.  Good news : Our ladies seem to be getting younger and more beautiful ever year ! We had 26 of our lovelies tee it up at Fayetteville. It was particularly nice to welcome rookies : Cathy McClelland, Cathy Walker and Barbara Nido. We were also delighted to have guests, Bev Land and Robyn James [ Class A Ladies Professional !], along for the ride. The 4 competitions were exceptionally tightly contested each day….a putt here and there made all the difference. Here is how is went : Couples 2 Lady Scramble : The perennial powerhouse team of Linda Knight and Louise Jacobson smoked the Annika Flight by 6 shots`with a 71 . Then Barbara Nido and Carol Erwin won the Lexi Flight in a scorecard playoff with the outstanding score of 64! At Iron Forge, Lou Rhyne, Sandy Poque, Linda Knight and Cordy Arnold brought home the bacon in another scorecard playoff with all teams finishing within 4 shots of each other. At Waynesboro CC, the winners were Susan Nelson, Val Yakovac, Barbara Nido, Carol Irwin and Robyn James. This team was stacked! At the Founders Course, Janet MacLaren, Anne Schrader, Carol Irwin, Lou Rhyne and Val Yakovac just nipped the 2nd place team by a single shot as all teams again finished within 4 shots of the lead. ….and a great time was had by all and all of us looking forward to Lake Geneva ! Its been too long !!

2022 LGA - Lake Geneva, WI

USMA 1971 Shootout Ladies / Couples History

The LGA evolved over several years to eventually blossom in 2003 as a 4 lady A/B/C/D scramble. The idea was to attract all skill levels to a team game of low stress and high fun. Over the years we added a Couples Day on the first day of the competition and then a handicapped 2 lady scramble competition in conjunction with the Couples round. A great time is always had by all. Newcomers most welcome!
